about politics…

It has been suggested to me by someone close and intelligent that I not flaunt my political affiliation on this blog due to potential negative opinions about the kind of person I must be if it’s to get out that I’m a member of that other party. While I tend to agree and so have actually spent a good portion of my voting life incognito due to the fear that I might be labeled an evil, insensitive and ignorant warmonger with a firmly closed mind, I also must say that one of the best things about being an American is our freedom of speech, and so, do now stand by my political affiliation and refuse to be ashamed of it. I do not ask other people why they gravitate toward one particular belief system or another, I simply accept that some of us have Democratic beliefs and others, Republican. It certainly does not mean I look down on those who would disagree with me, this is actually the beauty of American politics, that we can debate each other’s differences and furthermore, are free to have them.
I am directly related to Democrats. Most of my friends are Democrats. And though we differ in opinion on some leading political issues, that doesn’t mean I am only able to see one side of things and loathe any and all who would see it from the other side.
I do not willingly support one particular candidate because I am a Republican, nor do I defend the mistakes of other Republicans simply because we are members of the same party.
I do not make the assumption that my political stance is the only one of good standing, and that those of any other affiliation are wicked and unwise.
I will not get into my thoughts on war, abortion or marriage until asked. So if you’re curious, email me.
And that’s it. Really.
